THE RESTAURANT
Originally founded by Chef Mark Ellman as Honu “Seafood and Pizza” over a decade ago, the business was purchased in September 2021, and has since been reimagined into Honu Oceanside. Still rooted in the classic, European inspired dishes ingeniously designed by Mark, we are stepping into more modern waters, with a rising tide to table seafood selection, and an all around elevated menu.
By crafting an exclusive wine collection from prestigious makers around the world, building a striking whiskey and spirits program, and adding a touch of extravagance to every dish, the new Honu Oceanside is creating a place for locals to treat themselves, and for visitors to indulge in a culinary adventure as rich as the view.

THE CHEF
Maui grown chef, Scotty Roberts, got his culinary start at 17 years old, and joined the Honu kitchen 9 years ago. With a background in mixed martial arts, he has rolled with the punches of the last few years, rising in the ranks and flourishing through the trying times of the pandemic. Now, even more growth and opportunity lie ahead with the evolution of Honu Oceanside.
A dedicated family man, this upcountry boy comes to the shore every day to keep the spirit of Aloha burning strong in the kitchen. You can find him filleting fish and experimenting with new recipes while keeping the vibes high, music just right and running the whole back of house team with positivity and respect.

Chef, culinary icon, restaurateur, family man and friend, Mark Ellman will be missed beyond measure by the Maui Community and the many people whose lives he touched over the years.
A pioneer of supporting local, Mark was one of the 12 Hawai'i chefs that formed the Hawai'i Regional Cuisine movement in the early 90's - supporting and developing local growers, showcasing their fresh produce and completely reinventing Hawaiian Cooking.
Together with wife, Judy, he opened Honu Oceanside as "Honu Seafood and Pizza" in 2011. Although our name and ownership has changed, Mark's recipes remain the foundation upon which this restaurant is built, and we are honored to be able to continue bringing his vision to life.
Mark's legacy of "Practice Aloha" and the many restaurants he opened and successfully operated will forever be reminders of his life and everyone here at Honu Oceanside send our heartfelt condolences to the Ellman Ohana.
